Andrew Duff campaigns in Spain for EU Constitution12.00.00pm GMT Wed 9th Feb 2005 Andrew Duff MEP, spokesman on constitutional affairs for the European Liberal Democrats (ALDE), will be in Madrid tomorrow (Thursday) to join the campaign for a Yes vote in the forthcoming referendum. Mr Duff will meet with representatives of all the pro-EU parties in Spain and speak at a public meeting. In a statement today, Andrew Duff said: "I am going to Spain to demonstrate the importance of getting a large Yes vote for the constitution in a country which, Britain apart, had some difficult issues to address in the drafting of the constitution. The consensus that was eventually arrived at in the Convention and at the IGC meets the national interest of Spain and the common interest of all Europe. "Spain has made a major contribution to the quality of the constitution, not least with respect of European citizenship. "By participating in the campaign for ratification of the constitution, I will be expressing solidarity with fellow liberals and democrats in Spain. "I will also be interested in learning how the Spanish are fighting their campaign, and in drawing any appropriate lessons for Britain. "A loud Spanish Yes on 20 February will certainly be heard in Britain." ENDS/…
