Andrew Duff, Euro-MP for the East of England, has welcomed the election results in Italy and defeat for the Italian Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi.

Mr Duff said:

"I say farewell to Mr Berlosconi without sadness. Mr Prodi has a difficult task ahead of him but the healing process starts now and he should be congratulated for this victory."

"Mr Prodi is a good European and he will help to make Europe a stronger force in world affairs. I expect Mr Prodi to help the EU to come to successful conclusions on key issues such as the Constitution."
