In advance of the signature on Thursday of the Treaty of Lisbon, Andrew Duff is launching a short, authoritative briefing on what the new Treaty contains and how it will effect the governance of the European Union.
Duff, who represented the European Parliament at the Intergovernmental Conference which negotiated the Treaty and is a specialist on constitutional affairs, said:
"The new Treaty is fairly complicated and will need a lot of analysis and explanation. There are a lot of falsehoods peddled by the eurosceptics about the Treaty of Lisbon, so it's high time for the truth to be told.
"Lisbon constitutes a radical reform of the European Union. The EU emerges from this long and controversial negotiation greatly strengthened. Those who wish Europe well should welcome the new treaty."
Andrew Duff's True Guide to the Treaty of Lisbon is published today on the websites of the ALDE Group (www.alde.eu), the UK Liberal Democrat MEPs (www.libdemmeps.eu) and his own site (www.andrewduff.eu). The pdf version of the seven page document is published in English, French, German and Italian.
